Saw Star Trek last night and loved it. But being a geek, I will need to quibble some minor issues...

  1. Is it just me or fors the Romulan mining ship look like a Vorlan ship?
  2. The stone faces ewok was totally unnecessary.
  3. When did Romulans start tattooing their faces?
  4. Where are they mining that they need a ship that heavily armed?
  5. Red matter? If a) you only need a drop to implode a black hole, why would you carry a 5'-6' diameter ball with you on a dangerous mission where you would only need one drop?
  6. The Vulcan ice planet of Hoth is where the Cloverfield monster is from?
  7. Jumping across vast expanses on ledges with no railings is the best way to get around a Romulan ship? Really? Romulans don't have stairs, lifts, or railings?
  8. If Kirk was going to cheat, would he really make it so obvious he was cheating?
  9. Finally, when you are transported tdo you lose or keep your kinetic energy?

The Romulan was totally un-Romulan. He didn't even SOUND like a Romulan. And what's with the Burger King commercials talking about KLINGONS?
My dad and I had the same question about the red matter. We imagined it just laying around, like the way we find mushrooms on our lawns in Ohio. "Oh! Look! More red matter! Well, we'd better stockpile this!"
And how come the first crew member to die wasn't wearing a red shirt?
Furthermore, in the TV series, in addition to ending up in a wheelchair, didn't Pike also have radiation poisoning?

That being said, I loved the movie.

In the BK ad, I think they are calling them "king-ons", but still...

As for Pike, I expected him to look like he had been dipped in acid like in the TV series, but as a coworker pointed out to me, this is a different time line and in the original series Pike was injured saving cadets.

BK will be trying to get two classes of ppl to buy their collector glasses.

a) the Trekkies and hardcore geek freaks who will eat at BK :raises hand and points w the other towards the cabinet that now holds my Uhura glass:
b) the average moron who will eat at BK.

i'd venture to guess it's because the average moron doesn't know what a Romulan is....but they DO know what a Klingon is. just as most of the TOS crew's names are usually recognizable to the average moron.

plus the opportunity to put ridges on the King clones and call them "King-ons" was no doubt too good to pass up.

re: #5 - i presume because if you didn't contain it, it would just float off in the vacuum and possibly eventually blow up something ELSE for which it was not intended. therefore it had to be contained until it reached its intended target.

# Is it just me or fors the Romulan mining ship look like a Vorlan ship?
Doris thought the same thing. All we needed was to see Senator Molari sitting in a bar... wait a minute wasn't that him in the Shipyard barfight scene?
# The stone faces ewok was totally unnecessary.
Needed for the kiddies.
# When did Romulans start tattooing their faces?
130 years from now..I mean from then. They start at 13 with one tattoo and experimenting with drugs. By the time they are 18, they are either joining the military cause they have no choice... or they become minors.
On the other hand... did anyone notice that we now have seen Romulans WAY before the Balance of Terror episode.
# Where are they mining that they need a ship that heavily armed?
Looks like they are used to using that drill to pick apart a planet and grab the pieces. I'd want to be heavily armed too if I knew I was going to piss off a planet.
# Red matter? If a) you only need a drop to implode a black hole, why would you carry a 5'-6' diameter ball with you on a dangerous mission where you would only need one drop?
Cause you are a Vulcan and have some really logical but stupid reason for doing so.
# The Vulcan ice planet of Hoth is where the Cloverfield monster is from?
YES! Didn't you notice Han and Luke in the background.
# Jumping across vast expanses on ledges with no railings is the best way to get around a Romulan ship? Really? Romulans don't have stairs, lifts, or railings?
It's all about those feline genes.
# If Kirk was going to cheat, would he really make it so obvious he was cheating?
Faced death as a baby, Faced death as a 10 year old, probably faced death a couple times in between. He doesn't care if they know, he assumes he will still fall on his feet.
# Finally, when you are transported tdo you lose or keep your kinetic energy?
I was so expecting Sulu to at least say "Couldn't you have slowed our momentum?"
