May. 16th, 2009 @ 03:13 pm Cost of registering a car in Washington?
I recently bought my Dad's old truck. He lives in Oregon. What is the process of getting a vehicle registered here in Washington and what can I expect in fees?

Thanks to Tim Eyeman, you don't have to pay much for reg and tabs in this state... Unless you live in King County. I have no idea what it's up to there for an old truck, but a moderately recent vehicle can be anywhere between $80 and $450 depending on assessed value. That's on top of the capped state tag price of (-what is it now? $45?) and any plate fees. And don't forget the $3 to $8 processing fee, depending on the tab franchise you use.

Plus it usually has to be cash, and you HAVE to do it through a third party agency in your area, and the only way to find out is to call that agency (list available at https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/vehoffices/DisplayOffices.aspx?County=17&T=0 )

Oh, yeah- Don't forget to complete your Report of Sale. They can hose you hard if you don't.

One-time fee to verify the vehicle identification number (VIN) when registering an out-of-state vehicle in Washington for first time $15
(Paid to DOL with registration fees)
You can find your local registration office here: http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/fees.html

If it needs a state patrol inspection, it will be about $65 along with the other registration fees.
