Just about every year I go out drinking on this day and I end up in some sort of nerve wracking violent event.
For example, about 5 or 6 years ago when I lived in Mtn View, CA, my roomie John and I went to Campbell with some coworkers. We had a great time, but as we were leaving we heard a woman screaming for help. Some drunk guy was tryig to pick a fight with her and her boyfriend while they waited at the bus stop. If someone is screamming for help, do you ignore them? So we went over and just stood between the guy and the couple and politelysuggested he just go home and and take a nap. That was it. But then two of his buddies walk out of the bar and think we're trying to pick a fight with him. Things got a little worse before they got better.
While the situation was unique, the aspect of violence I don't want to be involved in does surround this holiday.
With that said, when you are out tonight,be safe. That's drive safe. Walk safe. Drink safe. I trust all of your judgement in such thing, but I don';t trust the judgement of the people who will be around you.
