I'm still hoping to get hired in Febuary, when my contract runs up. The good news is 4 reqs are open instead of just three.
How will I treat myself when I get hired?
Buy using my Intel employee discount to buy/build a new system. Now do I want to build a kick ass linux system or buy a Mac? I love MacOS, it's running unix, and everything I want will run under it, and it will be warrantied, and I can run more commercal software. But the discount will be minimal on a Mac (if they offer one) and I could likely build a sceaming linux system for the same price.
dual or quad proc system
An appropriate graphics card or two*
RAID (either scsi (hardier) or sata (faster))
And 0.5Tb total disk space.
*I would like to be able to support two monitors. Plus, there are some new efforts to let people use a GPU for processing data, like image/video processing or raytracing.
I don't care about a nifty windowed modded case. (why would I want to show off the dust bunnies in my computer?)
Anyway, fast Mac or super fast linux system? I don't know.
