Please do not dis people because the own "digital rebels". As Chuck Yeager said about planes, "It's not the plane, it's the pilot. The same can be said about cameras. There are a number of digital rebel owners who do produce professional results. I'm sorry if you feel you need a more expensive camera to be able to compose your shot.
It sounds like you were in a public place, you will encounter the public, and many members of the public have cameras. I'm sorry the public gets in your way, but perhaps if you were in this location in a professional capacity, you should have done what other professionals do, which is get a photo pass which will often allow you to go better lines of sight without people in your way.
As for it being to dark for people to take pictures, I see that as being their own problem, and not yours. And as a "professional", you should know that the brand of camera has nothing to do with this, rather it is the lens speed and the iso setting.
Quit whining, suck it up, and go take some fucking pictures.
