82,000 miles and my truck is finally acting it's age.
On the way to the beach trip when idling the engine was dropping down to 200 rpm and reving up to 1,200, and cycling through that instead of just idling at 500 rpm. At one point I stopped at a light and the engine just died. Then the problem went away.
Today I started out and went fine for a couple blocks and the engine very breifly sputtered and the check engine light came on but was them operating normally. So I came home and cleaned the K&R airfilter (it was way over due). I also got some fuel system cleaner that I'll run through it in a bit. Hopefully that clears up the problem, but I suspect it's a sensor issue which as I'm in between jobs right now, I really don't have the finances to replace.
But the sad fact is, Pepe is due for a tune up anyway, which I'm guessing will cost in the $1,000-$2,000. New timing chain, distrubtor cap and rotor, spark plugs and cables, the timing checked, etc.
Oh, and it's time to change the oil.
