One more example of conservative retardation.

Some guy here are work has this bumper sticker.

Please notice the soviet communist era hammer and sickle.

Now perhaps some of you remember that in the Soviet Union you had to show identification to travel. Phones of citizens were regularly tapped without warrants. People were held for unrestricted amounts of time while never being charged with a crime. You did not have freedom of speech.

These are all things the A.C.L.U. is fighting and the government does.

So what kind of idiot tries to relate the A.C.L.U. to the U.S.S.R.? Obviously one who works at the same campus as me and lives in my neighborhood.

The truth is, I miss the cold war. I miss having the Soviet Union doing all those things so we would say "we're better than them because we don't infringe on peoples rights". And we would really protect individuals rights.

Within 10 years of the U.S.S.R. falling, we have become our former enemy.

Our administration says we need these infringements on liberty to catch terrorists because they hide among us. World War II proved that wrong. We did not have these limitations on our rights, but we were able to catch and contain German infiltrators and saboteurs.

News on the front page of the Living section of our local paper, The Oregonian.

  • Tomorrow is both National Hugging Day and Squirrel Appreciation Day.
  • Ex-Lax was originally called "Bo-bo's."
  • A runaway tortoise missing a week ing Parkland, Fla., was found two blocks from home.

They alos point out that Oregon's motto is, "Oregon: She Flies With Her Own Wings." They further (rightly) suggest that this motto bites. They are having a contest to select a new motto. First prize is a dancing NASCAR Hamster that sings "Born to Be Wild" and also says, "Boogity, boogity, boogity, get up off your feet!"

If you wish to enter the contest, e-mail your suggestions to theedge@news.oregonian.com
