Babies protect their mothers?

http://science.slashdot.org/science/06/02/08/175243.shtml

Scientists have found that fetal cells stay with the mother for life, after giving birth, and act like stem cells, repairing parts of the body. Even abortions and miscarriages help, with the fetal cells stick around for years. And they suggest the more pregnancies, the more fetal cells, and the better for the mom. Also, they suspect these cells cured a woman of hepetitis.

On one level I see this as a good thing. On another level, I wonder what sorts of socio-political and religious debates this will cause, with people thinking of pregancy as a cure or vaccine for various ills.

The religous right encouraging abandoning the condom for the "health benifits"? The left saying it's not only okay, but good to get pregnant and have an abortion?

If this research pans out, any thoughts or predictions on the social impact?

An iBook/Laptop mod I would like to see...

the wide screen laptops are cool. iPods are cool. I would like to see them combined. In particular have widescreen with normal narrow keyboard and a removable plate to the left or right of the keyboard what hides an iPod dock, so the iPod lays flat in there (so the laptop can be closed with the iPod in it, then allow the laptop to see and use the iPods drive, and allow the iPod to use the laptop speakers, and possibly use the iPod controls to manage some apps on the laptop.

Frustration is having something look like it's in perfect focus on the camera by when you get the pictures off the camera, they look like shit from being out of focus.

If I'm going to be photographing things other than the moon, I need to get the focusing problem worked out, and pronto.
