There are a few people on my friendslist who "proactively recycle discarded goods" (a.k.a., dumpster diving). This sounds all well and good, I mean they get decent furniture and some cool electronics, wtc. But the one thing that really I can't bring myself to accept is dumpster diving for food. I've been down my share of alleys. I've seen the rats and coaches going in and out of these things. I've seen how dirty they are. Eating from a dumpster just seems like asking for some rare incurable and very painful wasting disease. On top of this, these are people with jobs and might not be able to afford to eat out, but could afford to go to the store and get veggies and stuff and make food at home. But I guess that lacks the street cred of picking larvae out of your dinner.
