Wow! Fucked up. I'm glad the hacker was busted, but I don't think the sysadmin had any right to break into someone elses system. That's why we have a warrant system to allow the proper authorities to do things like this:

Basically the courts have said that if your sysadmin, ISP, etc thinks you are doing something illegal, it is a-okay for them to decide on their own to break into your system and gather evidence. This could open the road for the RIAA being able to break into people computers who they suspect a stealing music. Or if I think you have images of mine in a private flickr album, posting them saying they are yours, it is just fine for me to break into your computer or your flickr account to verify this.
