So jameth seems to be the candidate to beat for the advisory position (is that anything like missionary?), and people supporting other candidates are taking up attack campaigns in a fashion that would give Carl Rove wet dreams.

jameth's supporters come to his defense. The supporters of the opposing candidate starts deleting comments faster than... well... I'm having trouble coming up with a good analogy for the efficiency of the censorship.

Which leads to my discussion of freedom of speech with one of the candidates who's followers seem a bit rabid....

Free speech is a tricky thing. Everyone wants it, but they only want other people to speech if they agree with them. We all were upset when the new owners of LJ did mass suspensions of accounts for what people said. The advisory position is there to remind the owners to not go down the censorship path. We need to be careful not to just pick people who say they are for free speech, but rather pick people who's actions show they whole heartly will let people speak their piece, even if they disagree with what the speaker is saying.
