When they reopened the wound Friday to clean up the infection, they left it open and packed it with gauze.
The latest four images here are of the finger after the 5 day old hardened gause was painfully extracted from the wound:
Because it was infected before, they don't want to just sew it up, so instead they are going to leave it open and daily I have to fill the wound with saline soaked packing strips. I then wrap that in dry gauze. The idea is the water strips, as they dry, will wick out all the bad foreign materials, and each day we replace the packing strips with new packing strips and the the wound will gradually close. That combined with the IV antibiotics, and I should eventually heal.
So... What did y'all do for excitement today?
