I may be way off base here, but...

I think it's time to look at the definition of "hero".

To me, a hero is someone who avoid the safe route and puts themselves at risk in order to save or help others.

A common example of this are firemen would rather than sitting outside and watching a building burn, risk their lives going in to the building to get others out.

Then you have a "survivor". A survivor is someone put in to a dangerous situation by circumstances beyond their control and they find a safe way out. They did not willingly put their life at risk.

Both are great, and both deserve to be honored.

The reason I bring this up is Sully, who did a wonderful job saving the lives of 155 through his cool head and reasonable thinking under fire is getting the keys to the city of New York. Which I think is great! But firemen who save more lives than that by repeatedly putting themselves at risk do not get such an honor? It doesn't seem fair.

I'm just wondering why we don't see huge national news reports going on for days/weeks about fire fighters who save their 155th person getting the keys to the city? It hardly seems fair.
