This post is basicly a note to myself. I'm trying to remember what layer options do what in gimp, so I've take an image, then made a negative of that image, overlaid them, negative on top, and then tested what the various options did. This post is just the output, so I have a refference.

Orignal and Negative

This is the original, and the negative I layered over it for the following tests.

Normal

You only see the top layer, which is the negative.

Dissolve</h1>
This has no noticable effect. Looks just like normal mode.

Multiply (Burn)

Darkened, just like if you burned in a dark room.

Divide (Dodge)

Lightened, like if you burned in a dark room.

Screen

Like if the negative was lightened.

Overlay

Muted colors.

Difference

Addition

Obviously the Beatles White Albumn was a landscape with the members in a field involved in an orgy. Then they applied this filter.

Subtract

Night time.

Darken only

Make the light colors negative.

Lighten

Make the dark colors negative.

Hue

Hewy was waiting for Lewy and Dewy, and dropped acid to bide his time.

Saturation

Saturation on the positive increased by the color value of the negative.

Color

Hewy is still tripping.

Value

The brightness and saturation of the positive is increased or decrease by the difference in brightness and saturation of the negative.

So, when are they going to make glasses that will do color shifts like this for you on the fly?
