My music flier pet peeve. Why do so few groups/DJ's/etc list what style of music they play? I can see omitting that if you are well known, and people know what you play. But if you are a small local band or DJ, do not you think people are more likely to take a risk on you if they at least know you will be playing in a genre they enjoy?

Like, I see this flier a couple days ago for a couple of local DJ's. I've never heard of them. It is just a pretty picture and says they will be mixing at such and such club. The flier is glossy black and white, with a blurry moody night scene of people walking down the street, with some cool b/w icon's on the back. I'm getting sort of a blues/jazz feel from the flier so I'm thinking maybe down tempo or some dark moody trip hop or something like that.

Well, after about 15 minutes of online research, I find out it's goth with some industrial. Which I also enjoy. But I would have been pissed if I got there expecting one and got the other. If I order chicken, I don't want pork. I don't care if they are both white meat.

So, any thoughts as to why you rarely see the genre listed on fliers?
