Why it's great to have a beater... Or at least one of the reasons...

I know several people how have collector cars. The closer to perfect they get those cars, the more shit people give them about the one or two things still wrong with the car.

Like my friend Kelly, he has a beat up original Mini Cooper S, and he has a beautiful classic Mustang. The Mini, no one bugs him about. But the mustang, while they are factory correct wheels, people are always giving him shit about them. This car is amazing. Or Chuck, with a pristine condition '55 Bel Air, but left side the bumper ir about half a centimeter higher than the right side. You have to look at the picture witha magnifying glass to tell, and people give him no end of greif about it. But his Nova, whien the sagging roofliner, and faded paint, no one says a word about. Makes one wonder if all the hours of work and dollars spent are worth the effort. On the other hand my Dad's Porsche is in great shape, other than the dash, and no one gives him shit, other than occasionally reffering to it as the "Volkwagen". Maybe it's just the type of car.

BTW, Kelly is selling his Mustang. It's appraised for $16,000 and selling it for $13,000. I hae pictures if you like. It's a 60's era hard top, red, v-8 with manual transmission. The exterior and interior are in excellent condition. I wish I had a job, and could afford it... :-( If you are interested, let me know, and I'll put the pictures up, and get more info.
