I learned from my Louisiana birding list that some idiot shot a whooping crane at Lake Bardwell, south of Dallas, last Friday. They caught the guy and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service reportedly intends to prosecute him to the full extent of the law, but that doesn't change the fact that there were only about 40 wild whoopers in North America, and now there is one less.
I hope they make an example of the guy. While I general dispise it when the government decides to make an example of anyone, but in this case I think it's warranted. 40, oops, 39 left in the wild. At that low of a population, you can't consider any of them a renewable resource. In fact, In fact, let me go against Amnesty International here and state, that I think that if someone is found to, without a doubt*, to have commited a greivous dcrime like premeditated murder, serial killings, torturing of people or animals, or intentionally killing an extremely endangered animal, I think torture should be allowed. I think they should be put in jail for life, and every day for the rest of their life they should feel the pain they has caused. I think their suffering should be broadcast so everyone know what will happen if you commite such a heinous crime.
*"Without a doubt" means that there is no way the guilty party could not be innocent. You have witnesses, DNA evidence, etc.
Oh yeah, vote Harrison in 2004.
