I've never formatted my smartmedia card since I got it. Until today, that is.
I'm wondering how it was formatted before, as when it was empty, it always said I could fit roughly 257 images. I formatted it as FAT, and it says it can now fit roughly 263 images.
So, I'm wondering what it was formatted as before. FAT32?
Speaking of Digital camera's and the FAT filesystem... Microsoft is now trying to chagre $0.25 for every device people sell with a FAT filesystem on it, or upto $250,000 per manufacturer. This includes all the storage devices sold for digital cameras.
What does this mean? My guess is companies will pay or sell devices unformatted and let users format the device on thier own. Eventually, I think the manufacturers will come up with a new filesystem. But, if microsoft is going to charge for devices. Will Microsoft also try to charge people who make programs that can format things to FAT?
